Phylostratigraphy Tracks

Rafik Neme - rneme(a)evolbio.mpg.de

Phylostratigraphy indicates the phylogenetic age (phylostratum) of a given gene according to its earliest detectable similar sequence in the public databases (NCBI's nr).

Old genes are placed in low phylostrata, while young genes are in high phylostrata.

Important information:

- Current track contains only age values of the longest splice variant per gene (i.e. one age value per gene).

- This phylostratigraphy has more strata than before. More data is available now. The third colum of the phylogeny below describes the current phylostrata (1-30) and in the fourth column its equivalence in the previous one (1-20)

- The age has been color coded. Red tones indicate older genes, while green tones indicate younger genes.

- The age has been also value coded. UCSC permits subsetting based on values. In this case, the range is from 0 to 1000. Each phylostratum is 33 points, so that ps1 genes will have a value of 33 and ps30 genes will have a value of 990.
