Plasmid DNA shipping by mail

Cut 2 cm square piece of Whatman 3MM paper (or other filter paper) and draw a circle on it with a diameter of ~ 5 mm. Pipet 1 ul plasmid solution (~ 0.5 ug) into the centre of the circle. DNA should be dissolved in TE. The circles are drawn first so that cross-contamination will not occur from the pen when shipping several different plasmids. These pieces of paper should then be wrapped in plastic foil (or even better into sealable bags and heat sealed Plasmids can then be sent by standard mail.

For plasmid recovery, cut the circle out, add 50 ul of TE vortex and let rehydrate for 5 min. Quick spin, the supernatant liquid can then be used to transform competent bacteria.

Packets of dried plasmid can be stored at 4¡C for several months without loss of competent plasmid.

Alternatively, mail the plasmid as an ethanol-precipitate. Please add a note into the "requests" excel file on GENERAL_DATA.
