Trombidium fuornum Schweizer, 1951 (unclear
synonym)
The taxon Trombidium fuornum has been
described from Switzerland.
However, the analysis of Makol (2005) suggests
that Trombidium fuornum
falls within the individual variation present
in Trombidium
holosericeus and is therefore regarded as an
unclear synonym of the
latter.
The taxon Acarus parasiticus has been
described by De Geer as a red
mite that parasitizes flies and other insects.
Thus, this description
includes most species of Trombidium.
Consequently, the name has been
used by subsequent authors for any red
Trombidium species. Thus,
records of Trombidium parasiticus could refer
to several Trombidium
species. There is also the possibility that
the nominal Acarus
parasiticus refers to a bona species, but this
is difficult to
determine at the present time. Because
Trombidium holosericeum is the
commonest species of the genus, it is likely
that the original Acarus
parasiticus belonged to this species and
therefore the name is included
here as an unclear synonym.
