The two known German specimens attributed to this taxon have been reported originally under the name "Epiptera marginicolis". Nickel and Remane (2002) have pointed out that Cixidia marginicollis is in fact restricted to Sicily and that the reported German "marginicollis" specimens are therefore presumably misidentified. They suggest that the specimens might belong to Cixidia pilatoi, but in their list the species is included as "Cixidia spec.". Although (to my knowledge) the suggested identity of "Cixidia spec." (sensu Nickel and Remane) with Cixidia pilatoi has not been confirmed by subsequent studies, most current faunal lists of Germany list Cixidia pilatoi. A later study of the planthoppers of the Kaiserstuhl has not been able to collect any specimens of this species (Nickel et al. 2003). The two known specimens initially identified as Epiptera marginicollis (=Cixidia marginicollis) and later "re-identified" as Cixidia pilatoi should therefore be revised for their identity.
