Subspecies
Five subspecies are recognized. However, these
are ecologically and morphologically distinct
and thus I propose that these subspecies should
better be regarded as separate species.
(1) Neophilaenus exclamationis exclamationis
(Thunberg, 1784)
(2) Neophilaenus
exclamationis alpicola Wagner, 1955
(3) Neophilaenus
exclamationis dilutus (J. Sahlberg, 1871)
(4) Neophilaenus
exclamationis monticola Wagner, 1955
(5) Neophilaenus

Two of these (sub)species also occur in Germany:
Neophilaenus exclamationis exclamationis
and Neophilaenus
