Agonum nigrum

Distribution
In Germany, the species is extremely rare. Records exist for Niedersachsen and Bremen (two old records from before 1884 and from 1910, but no current records); Sachsen-Anhalt (two very old and doubtful records); Nordrhein-Westfalen (several records, also current records (in total 18 records between 1921 and 2004)); Hessen (a single doubtful record from before 1910); Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland (7 records from 1985-2004 including 2 from Saarland); Baden-Württemberg (a single doubtful record from 1928) (Hannig 2008).
In Europe: Westpalearctic with records from France, UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium. There are old records from Austria, but these are in need of revision, because of the possible confusion with related species (Hannig 2008).
Rest of world: Records exist for Tunisia (Hannig 2008).

Biology
Phenology: Due to the low number of records with dates the phenology in Germany is unclear. Records exist between February and November, but a clear peak is present in May and June (Hannig 2008).
Habitat: marshy places, moist and soft soil near lakes, ponds and rivers (river banks), mostly among sedges and grass and under stones. Swamps and wet meadows. Reportedly a halotolerant species. (Hannig 2008).
