This species has been misidentified in all publications up until
Bowestead´s (1999) revision. It is known in pre-1999 publications
as Rhypobius (or Rypobius) ruficollis. This name, however, is a synonym
of the species Gloeosoma velox (that is not recorded from Germany). The
species has therefore been described as new species by Bowestead (1999).

Distribution
Widely distributed
in Europe. It is not yet recorded from Germany, but this might be the
result of insufficient research rather than a real absence in Germany,
because it is recorded from most other Central European countries.
