Die Art ist in Europa und Asien weit verbreitet. Es werden zwei Unterarten unterschieden: die ssp. aquilonaris ist nur aus den cantabrischen Cordilleren bekannt. Die Nominatunterart ssp. caraboides kommt im restlichen Verbreitungsgebiet vor.
