Original
description
Rusek, 1979
p. 290
Rusek J (1979). Three new Mesaphorura species (Collembola:
Tullbergiinae) from Europe. Vest. cs. Spolec. zool. 63(4), 290-299.
Locus typicus: Lancaster, UK
Synonyms
Mesaphorura atlantica Rusek, 1979
Najtiaphorura atlantica (Rusek, 1979)
The definition of the Genus Najtiaphorura is currently debated.
According to the majority of authors the definition of Najtiaphorura
does not include the species "atlantica" and I follow this notion here.
Identification
Distribution
Recorded from several locations in the UK. Schulz et al. (2003) give
the general statement "Central Europe" obviously including Germany, but
I have no specific German locations.
Biology
Reported from coal-mining areas with carbon slate soil, where it is the
dominant species. Females and males are known in this
species.
