Empis albida

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms
Empis albida Meigen, 1804
Hilara albida (Meigen, 1804)

Note: this is a nomen dubium. The identity of this species is entirely unclear. It has been described by Meigen (1804) on the basis of a single female specimen in the collection of Baumhauer. This collection contained German specimens, but also specimens from other countries, so the origin of the specimen is unclear. The description does not fit any known species of Empis. Chvala and Wagner (in Soos and Papp 1989) and Yang et al. (2007) have suggested that it could belong in the genus Hilara, but the description also does not fit any known species of Hilara. The white color might indicate that it was an aberrant specimen, probably a pigmentation mutant.

Identification

Distribution
Unknown. Meigen (1804) did not give a location. It might have been caught in Germany, but this is not certain.
