Note: the name Empis nigricrus has been given to a single specimen in
the famous Museum Leskeanum which is presumably lost. The original
description is insufficient and the identity is entirely unclear. Empis
nigricrus is described as "cinerea, femoribus nigris, tibiis alisque
ferrugineis" ("grey, femora black, tibiae and wings rust-red (=dark
brown)"): Empis tesselata is generally a "grey Empis", and has darkened
wings. It shows quite some variation in leg coloration, but most
specimens have black femora and brown tibiae. Thus, the description of
Empis nigricrus quite generally fits Empis tesselata and therefore I
tentatively place it here.
