Notiphila brevicornis (Stenhammar, 1844)

Hollmann-Schirrmacher (1998) has examined the type specimens of Ephydra rufipes and finds that it is conspecific with the Central European specimens hitherto identified as Hyadina nitida. Thus, Hyadina nitida does not occur in Central Europe, but Hyadina rufipes does. However, whether the nominal Ephydra nitida is really a synonym of the nominal Ephydra rufipes remains unclear, because Hollmann-Schirrmacher could not study the types of Ephydra nitida. Thus, I list Ephydra nitida as an unclear synonym and would like to stress that it could be a valid species.
