Hydrellia geniculata

Subspecies
Two subspecies have been described, Hydrellia geniculata geniculata and Hydrellia geniculata flavitarsis. However, the flavitarsis taxon is only known from Sörbyholm, Sweden, which is also the type locality of the nominate form. This co-occurence argues against a subspecific status of the flavitarsis taxon. It is possible that the flavitarsus taxon represents a separate Swedish species. However, I regard it more likely that the flavitarsus is merely a color variant and include the name therefore in the synonymy of the present species.

Distribution
The species is recorded from Central Europe (Austria, Germany), Italy, Sweden and Japan. However, for Germany only a single record is available and this is regarded as doubtful by Stuke (2011).
