Note: all previous records of Limnellia stenhammari in Germany may be in fact misidentified Limnellia surturi (see Stuke (2010)). Re-examination of all available records and material of L. stenhammari from Germany is therefore urgently needed.

Identification

Distribution
Recorded from Canada, USA, Greenland. In the palearctic region recorded from northern Africa, Spain, France, UK, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia and Japan. The records from Germany have been questioned recently (Stuke 2010); these may all be misidentified Limnellia surturi. This may also be the case for some of the other palearctic records (especially the southern ones) of L. stenhammari. It may be the case that L. stenhammari is a circumpolar species that only occurs in northern latitudes of the holarctic region.
