Ephydra pallipes has been described by Meigen (1838). The description is quite clear and agrees very well with Philygria flavipes. Meigen himself realizes that his "pallipes" is probably identical with flavipes, because he writes: "Der Eph. flavipes sehr ähnlich" (translation: "very similar to Eph.[ydra] flavipes"). The name is listed as nomen dubium by Mathis and Zatwarnicki (1995). I include the name in the synonymy of Philygria flavipes.
