Philygria interrupta

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms
Ephydra interrupta Haliday, 1833
Philygria interrupta (Haliday, 1833)
Hydrina interrupta (Haliday, 1833)
Philygria femorata auct. nec Stenhammar, 1844

Hollmann-Schirrmacher (1998) was able to trace altogether 6 specimens in international museums that were labeled as this species. However, all of these specimens were misidentified and were in fact Philygria femorata. The type specimen, however, of Ephydra interrupta could not be localized by Hollmann-Schirrmacher in the museum in Dublin; it might be lost. Thus, currently no genuine specimens of Philygria interrupta are known to exist, and this species is therefore regarded as a species dubia. Indeed, it might be regarded as a synonym of Philygria femorata.
