Platypalpus excavatus Yang et Yao (in Yang et
al.), 2007 (unnecessary replacement name)
Note: Yang and Yao (in Yang et al. (2007))
have replaced the name, because of alleged
secondary homonymy of the nominal Tachydromia
excisa Becker, 1907 with Tachista excisa Loew,
1864 which is currently in the genus
Tachydromia. However, at the time of name
replacement (i.e. the year 2007) both species
epithets were not considered congeneric:
Tachista excisa Loew, 1864 was (and still is)
in the genus Tachydromia, whereas Tachydromia
excisa Becker, 1907 was already in
Platypalpus. Thus, at the time of name
replacement the case was fully covered by
Article 59.2 of the International Code of
Zoological Nomenclature. Therefore, the action
of Yang and Yao was unnecessary and the
replacement name is to be regarded as a junior
synonym.
