Note: The Syrphus conopseus listed by Fabricius (1775) is in fact the present species, but Fabricius thought it to be the Linnaean Musca conopsoides (although he used a slightly modified name, conopseus, which is an unjustified emendation). This is a clear case of misidentification and misidentifications cannot serve as the basis for a new species description, even if the author uses a modified name (Article 49 of the Code).
