The nominal taxon Syrphus bucculatus has previously been regarded as a
synonym of Eupeodes luniger. However, the study of the type material
revealed that there are significant differences in male genitalia
morphology and Eupeodes bucculatus is now regarded as a good species (
Mazanek et al. 1998).
Mazanek et al. (1998)
showed that the taxon latilunulatus that has previously been regarded
as a good species, is in fact identical to the taxon bucculatus, and
they synonymized both names.
