Note: before 1847 the epithet denticulatus has often been used for Bothrostethus annulipes (see additional comments there).

Note: Cimex rubricornis is a nomen dubium. Dolling (2006), however, lists it as a species inquirenda and suggests that it is a species of Gonocerus. I agree, and I suggest that the short original description actually quite specifically suggests that Cimex rubricornis is identical with the present species: "Cimex (Spinosus) rubricornis. C.[imex] thorace hispido obtuse spinoso, antennis hispidis coccineis: articulo ultimo nigro". Therefore, I place the name here in the synonymy.
