Agathis
malvacearum

Subspecies
The taxon Agathis irregularis Fahringer, 1937, described from the Greek
island of Corfu, is sometimes regarded as subspecies of Agathis
malvacearum. However, both taxa are sympatric in Bulgaria, Hungary,
Italy and Turkey; thus, a subspecies status is ruled out. Agathis
irregularis could be a synonym of Agathis malvacearum or a separate
bona species. The currently available data do not permit a conclusive
decision and I thus retain the original rank of Agathis irregularis,
which is species rank. A. irregularis has not been recorded for Germany
so far.

Identification
Distribution
Recorded from France, Netherlands, Germany,
Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. However, the species is
very difficult to separate from Agathis umbellatarum and thus the exact
distribution of the two species is unclear. Agathis umbellatarum occurs
in most of Europe and it is likely that Agathis malvacearum has a
similar distribution.
