This species has previously been synonymized with Bassus conspicuus,
but has been granted full species status by Simbolotti and van
Achterberg (1992).
This species has long been assigned to the genus Agathis. Simbolotti
and van Achterberg (1992) have
reassigned this species to the genus Bassus. Both genera are very
similar and their relationship requires much more work on the genetics,
ecology and morphology of the species.
