Ephialtes zirnitsi

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms

Identification
The males are extremely similar to Ephialtes brevis. According to Horstmann (2011) the two species cannot be separated using genital morphological characters. Other morphometric characters like the length of antennal, tarsal or body segments also fail to distinguish between the two species. Horstmann (2011) finds color differences between the males of the two species and these are given in the following table:

apical hind femur
dorsolateral hind tibia
E. zirnitsi brownish spot
black stripe
E. brevis very thin brownish ring brownish stripe

Distribution
Southern Germany.
