Coniopteryx parthenia (Navás et Marcet,
1910)
Note: this species has a long and confusing
taxonomic history that is fully explained in
Aspöck et al. (2001). In short, confusion
arose when the type specimen of Deasia parthenia
was studied and reported to be different from
the type of Coniopteryx pygmaea. This was a
mistake, because the type of Coniopteryx pygmaea
had not been studied directly, but only the
published figures where used for comparison with
Deasia parthenia. This mistake, however, went
unnoticed and so the name "Coniopteryx
parthenia" was thought to be the valid name for
the present species, whereas the name
Coniopteryx pygmaea was misapplied to the
species Coniopteryx hoelzeli. This is the reason
why several older works give the wrong names for
these two species of Coniopteryx.
