Note: The original spelling of the species
epithet is "libelloides". I am currently not
aware of any justified emendation of this name
to "libelluloides". Since the name is given as
"libelluloides" in all major works available to
me, I keep it as the valid name; however, I
currently see no reason why the name given by
Linnaeus should be amended, and the valid name
would then be Palpares libelloides.
Identification
Distribution
Distributed
around the Mediterranean Sea including northern
Africa. There are some records from Central
Europe as well (Hungary, Germany, Netherlands),
but these are widely regarded as unintentional
introductions. Another possibility, however, is
that the species is currently expanding its
range north, coinciding with climate change in
Central Europe, and similar to many other
formerly purely Mediterranean insect species.
