Distribution
Discovered in greenhouses in Berlin-Dahlem and
Potsdam-Babelsberg in the 1930s. The population in
Potsdam vanished before the end of the 1930s for
unknown reasons and the population in Berlin was
terminated by the destruction of the botanical
gardens and its greenhouses at the end of World
War 2. Thus, the only known populations of this
species are extinct. It is believed that the
origin of the species is actually South America,
because the genus Phlugiola is an exclusively
South American genus, but the species has not yet
been (re)discovered in its native range.
