Subspecies

The
status of the taxon roumanicus is debated. It has previously been
considered as a subspecies of Erinaceus concolor. Genetic studies
suggest that both taxa are separate species. I consider the matter as
not convincingly clear, but accept provisionally the status of
roumanicus as a separate species.
