Identification
Size up to 13 mm long. Proboscis cylindrical and
equipped with 14 to 24
longitudinal rows of hooks (about 10 to 14 hooks
per row).
Distribution
Recorded from Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Netherlands, Italy, the
Iberian peninsula, the UK and Ireland, Denmark,
Poland and the Baltic
states, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania,
Moldova.
Biology
Lives as a parasite in the intestines of passerine
birds, especially
thrushes, ravens and woodpeckers.
