Note: this species
is placed in Malthonica by most authors.
However, the analysis by Bolzern
et al. 2010 clearly shows that Malthonica
and Tegenaria are not monophyletic if both are
recognized as separate taxa. I therefore combine
both genera under the older name of Tegenaria. For more information
on this issue see my comments under Tegenaria ferruginea.
Identification
Distribution
Adults can be
found from April to October. The species has
been reported from a variety of habitats:
forests, bogs and marshland, heaths, quarries,
fields. It lives under stones or plant parts
(tree roots, moss pads etc.); it is not
synanthropic and is rarely (if at all) found
inside buildings.
