The taxa nemorosa and soror have been synonymized by Breitling et al. 2016.

The nominal taxon Epeira pyrenaea (currently mostly listed as Araneus pyrenaeus) has previously been regarded as a synonym of the present species. However, Breitling et al. 2016 have shown that the type material comprises two species. By lectotype selection the name is now a synonym of Araneus pallidus (a species that does not occur in Germany).
