Phytoecia julii

< Previous    |    Next >

Subspecies
Some authors regard Phytoecia julii as a subspecies of Phytoecia nigricornis. However, both taxa appear to be largely sympatric, which argues against subspecies status and suggests that they are separate species. This is also supported by morphological and ecological differences between the taxa (see below).

Synonyms
Phytoecia julii (Mulsant, 1863)
Phytoecia nigricornis julii (Mulsant, 1863)

Identification
Very similar to Phytoecia nigricornis, but body broader. While the upper side of Phytoecia nigricornis has gray or whitish hairs, Phytoecia julii is covered with yellow or yellow-brown hairs.

Distribution
No information has been entered yet.

Biology
Reported to feed exclusively on Tanatecum vulgare, whereas Phytoecia nigricornis feeds on different Solidago species (Harde 1966).
