Tetropium is formally a junior synonym of Isarthron, because Isarthron has been published earlier than Tetropium. However, Isarthron has rarely been used as a valid name and thus the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has ruled in Opinion 1473 that Isarthron is excluded from nomenclature for the purpose of synonymy (ICZN 1988). Thus, Tetropium is the valid genus name.
