Synonyms
Tetrops praeusta (Linnaeus, 1758)
Tetrops praeustus (Linnaeus, 1758) (lapsus)

Note: many authors use the form Tetrops praeustus, probably erroneously assuming that the genus name Tetrops is of masculine gender. However, Tetrops comprises the two greek words τετρας (tetras, "four") and ωψ (ops, "face"), thus meaning "four-face". The gender of ωψ is feminine, thus the entire composite noun Tetrops is feminine as well. The species epithet is the latin word for "scorched at the tips" alluding to the blackish apical spot on the elytra. The correct feminine form of praeustus, -a, -um is praeusta.
