Identification
In Germany this is the only species of the genus
and unmistakeable. In North America a few
similar species occur that can be separated by
the pattern of stripes on the elytra and by the
color of the legs.
Distribution
Native to North America, distributed from Mexico
throughout the USA to southern Canada. The
species has been introduced elsewhere and is now
widespread in Europe and Asia including Russia
and China. The first records in Europe (in the
UK) date from 1875; first records in Germany are
from 1914. The species is now firmly established
in Germany.
