Identification
|
Body
length 3-6 mm. The tarsus color is not a reliable character to
distinguish between Podagrica fuscicornis and Podagrica menetriesi. Some
authors use this character (dark in Podagrica menetriesi, light in
Podagrica fuscicornis), but according to my experience specimens of
Podagrica fuscicornis that have partially darkened femora (e.g. the
animals shown to the right) tend to have darkened tarsi as well.

Distribution
|
Occurs in southern and southern-central Europe. In Germany mainly in the
south; rare in the north and apparently missing from northern parts of
Niedersachsen, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
|
Biology
|
Feeds on Malvaceae, especially on Malva, Althaea and Lavatera. I have found them on Hollyhock (Alcea rosea).
