Distribution
Germany: The
first record
dates from 1988. Further records date from
1989. All records are from
Eisenach (Thüringen)
(Rössner
and Apfel 2008). No further
records are known. There are,
however, records from the Czech Republic very
close to the border of
Bayern and there are records from France very
close to the border of
Rheinland-Pfalz and Baden-Württemberg,
the occurrence of Aphodius
reyi in these Bundesländer can therefore
be expected.
Recorded from south and west Europe (Spain,
Italy, the
Balkans, France) and east Europe and Asia
(Bulgaria, Ukraine, Turkey).
In Central Europe only scattered records from
Switzerland, Austria,
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland.
Biology
In Central Europe the adults occur from March
to June (with a peak
in May) and a (partial?) second generation in
October (see Rössner
and Apfel 2008).
A thermophilous
species as evidenced by its mostly southern
European distribution, but avoids places
directly
exposed to the sun. The species prefers bushy
and slightly moist
habitats mostly in the vicinity of creeks and
rivers.
