Type locality: "Etrusca" (northern Central Italy).
Anthrax cingulata Meigen, 1820 (nec Meigen, 1804; junior primary homonym)
Anthrax bimaculata Macquart, 1834
Note: this species is listed as Villa panisca in the World Catalog (Evenhuis and Greathead 1999) and its update (Evenhuis and Greathead 2003).
This is apparently based on the notion that the species epithet must be
adjusted to the feminine gender of the genus name Villa. Prpic (2016) points out that the
species epithet is in fact a noun in apposition, that does not change
with the gender of the genus name. The word "Paniscus" is a Latin noun
and means "small Pan"; because Pan is a male god, also its diminutive
only takes the male form "Paniscus". Indeed, this form is also used by Rossi (1790) who describes the new species under "B.[ibio] Paniscus", not as "Bibio panisca" as incorrectly stated in the World Catalog (Evenhuis and Greathead 1999) and its update (Evenhuis and Greathead 2003).
