Distribution
Originally a species of tropical and subtropical
regions, but recently also introduced into
Europe and spreading since ca. 1990. So far
recorded from Spain, France, Belgium,
Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia,
Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Ukraine. There
are two records of this species from Germany:
one from Frankfurt am Main, and one from Munich
(Kotrba
et al., 2012).
Biology
This species
usually deposits its eggs in decaying animal
matter, especially mammals, but it is also
known to parasitize in live animals causing
semispecific myiasis of the skin in humans and
livestock.
