| Subspecies Original description Synonyms Macrocera crassicornis Schiner, 1863 Macrocera annulicoxa Mik, 1865 Note: Macrocera crassicornis is often attributed to Winnertz, but the name is actually first mentioned in Schiner and validated by indication to Winnertz´ work (Article 12.2. of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature). Winnertz´ paper was delayed in printing and thus unfortunately came out after the publication of Schiner. Thus, although Winnertz should have been the original author, due to the principle of priority now Schiner must be regarded as the author (see also Evenhuis 2006).
