Synonyms
Macrocera obscura
Schiner, 1863 (nec Brulle, 1832)
Note: Macrocera obscura
Brulle, 1832 is older than Macrocera obscura
Schiner, 1863, but belongs to a species of
Hymenoptera. Thus the homonymy of the species
names is disregarded, because they are combined
with homonymous genus names that have been
established for different nominal genera (see
Article 57.8.1 of the International Code of
Zoological Nomenclature).
Note: Macrocera obscura is often
attributed to Winnertz, but the name is actually
first mentioned in Schiner and validated by
indication to Winnertz´ work (Article
12.2. of the International Code of Zoological
Nomenclature). Winnertz´ paper was delayed
in printing and thus unfortunately came out
after the publication of Schiner. Thus, although
Winnertz should have been the original author,
due to the principle of priority now Schiner
must be regarded as the author (see also Evenhuis
2006).
