Pipunculus xanthocerus Kowarz, 1887
Dorylomorpha xanthocera (Kowarz, 1887)
Dorylomorpha xanthocerus (Kowarz, 1887)
Note: The species epithet is often erroneously considered to be an
adjective and is therefore spelled with a terminal -a to adjust it to
the feminine gender of the genus name. However, the original spelling
xanthocerus is a composite noun composed of a mix of greek and new latin
(xanthos = greek for "yellow"; cerus = new latin for "horn" from the
greek noun "keros") and means "yellow horn". The word is thus a noun in
apposition and does not change with the gender of the genus name.
