Note: this species was the original type species of the genus Eudorylas,
but was found to be unrelated to the other Eudorylas species. Thus,
these remaining Eudorylas species have been excluded from Eudorylas and
placed in a new genus Neodorylas, and the name Microcephalops became a
junior synonym of Eudorylas in its new definition. This action was
contradictory to the general usage and concept of both genera and would
have led to significant nomenclatural instability and confusion.
Therefore, a new type species for Eudorylas has been selected (De Meyer and Skevington 2001) and validated by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 2002).
This action has preserved the names Microcephalops and Eudorylas in
their original sense and the only change that resulted was that the
present species moved from Eudorylas to Microcephalops.
