Note: Cimex distinctus is a nomen dubium. Dolling
(2006) suggests that the name may refer
to a species of Gonocerus or Haploprocta and I
agree. The original description ("Cimex
(Spinosus) distinctus: C.[imex] oblongus,
thorace obtuse spinoso subtus luteo, supra
antennisque ferrugineis") draws the picture of
a species that is clearly two-color: reddish
on the upper side and yellow below. In
Gonocerus this would especially fit Gonocerus
insidiator (a species not yet recorded from
Germany). However, the thoracic edges in
Gonocerus insidiator are truly spine-like, not
rounded as in most other species, and would
thus not fit "thorace obtuse spinoso". By
contrast, reddish specimens of Haploprocta
sulcicornis are quite similar in color to
Gonocerus insidiator, but have blunt thoracic
edges. Therefore, I tentatively place Cimex
distinctus as a doubtful synonym in the
synonymy of the present species.
