Note: The taxon Capsus pallescens is usually
regarded as a doubtful species that cannot be identified. However, I
place it here in the synonymy, because the description quite clearly
fits Apolygus lucorum. Herrich-Schaeffer (1835)
describes the species in his identification key to the species; thus,
all characters have to be compiled from the dichotomous key. These are
as follows: "Elytra membrana magna; si deest anum non tegunt; femora
postica reliquis parum crassiora. Oculi capitis marginem posticum rectum
postice convexiusculum non superant, a thorace remoti. Thorax lateribus
convexiusculis aut rectis, antice sensim convergentibus, margine antico
angustissime elevato. Corpore lineari aut elongato-ovato. Pallidi
unicolores, immaculati exceptis interdum antennis, pedibus et membrana,
(species nonnullae rubedine laeta gaudent, quae tamen non rite terminata
has species ad versicolores ponere non sinit.). Pallide pilosi. Tibiis
nigro spinosis. Virides aut flavi. Membranae nebulosa. Pallide virescens
aut vitellinus, macula ad basin membranae albae fusca".
The overall color, and especially the clouded transparent wing membrane,
the black tibial spines and the dark color at the base of the corium
where the membrane begins, perfectly fit Apolygus lucorum.
