Identification
Distribution
This species is mainly reported from
south-eastern Europe, North Africa and Asia. The
distribution of this species in Central Europe
is unclear. Most historic records have been
doubted and refuted in the meantime, but mostly
only on speculative grounds. There is no
confirmed record from Germany, but there is an
old report from "Preussisch-Schlesien" which at
that time comprised parts of Poland, Czech
Republic and Germany. Because the range of the
species is so incompletely known and because the
species of Sciocoris are so similar and can
easily be misidentified, the occurence of
Sciocoris maculatus in the extreme south-east of
Germany should not be totally ruled out, and
special care should be taken when identifying
specimens from that area.
