Note: The
nominal Salda ocellata has long been
regarded as a synonym of Saldula pallipes. However, Lindskog (1995) points
out that this is an erroneous synonymy and
that Salda ocellata is actually a synonym of
the present taxon. Unfortunately, both names
were published in the same year and the
exact publication date is only known for the
nominal Salda ocellata (March 24). Thus, it
is possible that ocellata has priority over
arenicola, but because arenicola is a
well-established name for the present
species I recognize arenicola as the valid
species epithet to ensure nomenclatural
stability.
