Note: The nomenclatural priority of Monanthia
sinuata has been the victim of an early
misinterpretation of the publication year of
Costa´s name "auriculatus". For a long time
it was believed that this name had been published
in 1843 and thus one year earlier than
Fieber´s sinuata. However, Costa´s
name has not been published in 1843, but in 1847
as has been recognized recently. However, since
sinuata has not been used as a valid name for more
than 160 years it is probably best to consider the
name a nomen oblitum. In support for this view,
all recent revisions retained the name Tingis
auriculata as the valid name.
