Subspecies
|
(1) Tapinoma erraticum erraticum (Latreille, 1798)
(2) Tapinoma erraticum madeirense Forel, 1895
(3) Tapinoma erraticum platyops Emery, 1925
Apart from these subspecies, there is disagreement about the status of
the taxa bononiensis and atomus (see below). Only the nominate
subspecies occurs in Germany.

Synonymy of Tapinoma erraticum erraticum:
Formica erratica Latreille, 1798
Tapinoma erraticum erraticum (Latreille, 1798)
Formica atomus Latreille, 1798
Formica glabrella Nylander, 1849 (see note)
Tapinoma collina Foerster, 1850
Tapinoma erraticum bononiensis Emery, 1925 (p. 55)
Type locality: "Plaine des environs de Bologne".
Note: The nature of the nominal Formica atomus is unclear. Some authors
regard it as a valid subspecies. However, the taxon appears to be based
on underdeveloped (dwarfed) individuals of Tapinoma erraticum erraticum
(see Emery 1925) and I provisionally list this taxon here as a synonym.
Note: Formica glabrella is a nomen dubium, that is only tentatively placed in the synonymy of the present species.
Note: Tapinoma erraticum bononiensis, described in the status of a
"variety", differs only by the light-brown ("blonde") color, and thus is
probably best regarded as an individual color mutant.
