Subspecies
A number of local forms
have been described, but most of these are now regarded to be very
closely related but separate species (e.g. Huemer (1993)). No
subspecies are recognized.
Original description
Synonyms
Adela vetulella Zetterstedt, 1839
Incurvaria vetulella (Zetterstedt, 1839)
Incurvaria vetulella vetulella (Zetterstedt, 1839)
This species belongs to a group of several closely related and very
similar species. In Germany, however, Incurvaria vetulella is the only
known species of this group.
Identification
Distribution
Widely
distributed in Central Europe. Also present in northern Europe, eastern
Europe, and western Russia. Also (introduced?) in North America.
Records from southern Europe and the Balcans are doubtful and probably
refer to other species of this species group. Note that similar
species occur in Austria and Switzerland (e.g. Incurvaria
ploessli and Incurvaria triglavensis) and in Scandinavia (e.g.
Incurvaria circulella). These species appear to have a rather
restricted range of occurrence; nevertheless it is possible that the
alpine species reach the southern parts of Germany and the scandinavian
species might reach the north of Germany. Records of Incurvaria
vetulella from these areas should therefore be carefully identified.
