Cerura vinula
Großer Gabelschwanz

Subspecies

A number of subspecies have been described. Most of them are not accepted by the majority of authors. The north-eastern European and north-western Asian populations are recognized as a separate subspecies Cerura vinula estonica (Hoyningen-Huene, 1905) and the subspecies from Iraq, Cerura vinula irakana Heydemann, Schulte et Remane, 1963 might in fact be a separate species. The arctic European populations are recognized as Cerura vinula phantoma (Dalman, 1823), and there is a doubtful insular form on Rhodos, Cerura vinula bederi Lattin, Becker et Roesler, 1974. In Germany only the nominate form is present.
